Idiopathic infantile asymmetry and infantile hemiplegia.

چکیده
In their recent paper, Philippi et al. [1] proposed a welcome evaluation scale which may be used across the different approaches that have been applied to infants with idiopathic asymmetry. It provides a functional view based on posture, spontaneous and reactive movements, hopefully unifying the host of syndromes under which these children came in the past. All these disorder categories (briefly reviewed in the paper’s introduction and to which Fulford’s and Brown’s squint-baby syndrome [2] may be added) are associated with particular differential diagnosis, ranging from muscle contracture to congenital bone deformity. In the context of developmental neurology, and in particular of reevalutaion of the cerebral palsy concept [3], it would appear relevant to stress the differences between idiopathic infantile asymmetry and hemiplegic cerebral palsy in the age group studied by Philippi et al. [1]. To characterize the clinical elements that may discriminate between hemiplegic cerebral

Two forms of hemitonic seizure in patients with infantile hemiplegia and epilepsy
Two forms of unilateral tonic (hemitonic) seizure were observed in two adult epileptic patients with infantile hemiplegia. Their ictal EEGs showed diffuse bilaterally synchronous spike bursts without focal features. In one case, a 31-year-old male, the VTR/EEG recording clearly demonstrated hemitonic seizure which simultaneously involved his paretic limbs and body and were associated with loss ...
متن کاملIdiopathic infantile asymmetry, proposal of a measurement scale.
UNLABELLED To evaluate the development of idiopathic infantile asymmetry and the efficacy of therapeutic interventions, spinal scoliosis can be quantified on the basis of radiographs. For obvious reasons, use of this technique is limited. Here we present a clinical method to describe and quantify infantile asymmetry. For item selection, spontaneous movements (SMs), reactive movements (RMs) and ...
متن کاملInfantile hemiplegia in pediatric dental set-up
Infantile hemiplegia refers to brain injuries that occur before or at birth and lead to hemiplegia/ total paralysis of one side of the body, including the face, arm and leg. The main purpose of this article is to provide valuable information to pediatric dentists about the review and treatment alternatives for patients with infantile hemiplegia. This article reports the case of a 12-year-old gi...
متن کاملStartle-induced seizures associated with infantile hemiplegia: implication of the supplementary motor area.
This case illustrates an uncommon form of symptomatic startle-induced epilepsy associated with infantile hemiplegia. Seizure semiology, neuroimaging and neurophysiological findings support involvement of the supplementary motor area in the generation of this seizure type. We present the case of an 11-year-old girl with an uncommon form of startle-induced seizures, illustrated on video-EEG, agai...
